The Saint of Scandal: The True(ish) Story of La Maupin

A blasphemously funny, swashbuckling one-woman show about the real 17th-century stage star who burned down a convent, dueled three men at once, and refused to be a cautionary tale.

Official Selection – Tampa International Fringe Festival 2026

June 10th – 21st, 2026

History turned her into a scandal.

This show lets her tell the tale herself.

The Saint of Scandal – The True(ish) Story of La Maupin

Part of the Extraordinary VoicesTM series

THE SAINT OF SCANDAL

Stage star. Swordfighter. Lover. Legend.

Bonsoir, mon ami…,”

The Saint of Scandal: The True(ish) Story of La Maupin is a bold solo performance exploring the life of Julie d’Aubigny—a 17th-century French performer, duelist, and cultural provocateur who defied every rule of polite society.

She fought duels.
She broke hearts.
She set fire to a convent.

And now—she tells her story herself.

Part confession, part theatrical reckoning, The Saint of Scandal  invites audiences into a world of duels, desire, and defiance—where reputation is unreliable, scandal is currency, and survival is an art.

Blending history, humor, and direct audience connection, this is the story of a woman who refused to be contained—and became a legend because of it.
